Some guys choose to use one shoe for all times of the day. That’s okay if you’re rocking black Vans (or any color for that matter), which seem to be a generic shoe for pulling off the casual look in Davis. However, this isn’t the shoe I’m referring to. I am referring to another fabulously expensive footwear: basketball shoes. Ranging anywhere from $100 upward, these shoes symbolize fashion within the athletic stylistic world of men.

I’ve spoken to a few of my lady friends and they all tend to agree with me: basketball shoes should only be worn at the gym or with athletic apparel if outside of an athletically conducive environment.
So, before all of you guys out there curse me under your breath, take a moment to see it from a woman’s perspective. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love athletic guys. As an aside, athleticism builds strong, healthy, and hopefully less stressful men for us women to enjoy the company of. But, wearing basketball shoes with a casual outfit (i.e. jeans and a shirt) is a fashion NO NO. Let’s illustrate with a similar example: would you wear a suit with bedroom slippers? Of course not---it looks silly because the two aren’t meant to be worn together. I know the comparison is a bit extreme but, it’s similar to how I view basketball shoes being worn apart from athletic apparel.
It’s a proven social norm that individuals tend to follow the styles of their peers or idols. Some of you guys may revere the famous rapper, Kanye West, who displays similar fashion psychology. I found two pictures of Kanye wearing the same pair of shoes in two different outfits. In my opinion, one outfit suits the shoes better than the other: I'll leave it to you to decide!
