This year, the Met's annual Costume Institute Gala is hosting an exhibit honoring American women entitled American Women: Fashioning a National Identity. Each year the Costume Institute Gala is the place to show off the most extravagant and beautiful "costumes" one could imagine. Celebrities, designers and models alike all walk the red carpet in some of the season's most beautiful and awe inspiring gowns. Some like to use this event to take fashion risks, noted in several of the outfits featured below. Others like to use the gala to dress up in the most beautiful dresses they could find to honor the Costume Institute and what it stands for. Here are just some of my favorites from this years gala:

From top to bottom: Gwen Stefani, Stella McCartney, Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively, Rosario Dawson, Kate Bosworth, Naomi Watts, MIA, Zoe Saldana and Diane Kruger, Mila Kunis, Designer Zac Posen and model Doutzen Kroes, Desginer Jason Wu and Camille Belle.
