TOM FORD EYEWEAR

I have to say, Tom Ford is one of my favorite and, in my opinion, one of the best eye wear designers. He became very well-known after his big turnaround of the Gucci fashion house during a 1995 collection that was filled with brightly colored blazers, disco satin shirts, and hip huggers - a dramatic change in fashion that happened "overnight". Tom's collection brought worldwide awareness of contemporary power play which secured Gucci's billion dollar empire. But, the one thing Tom Ford contributed that no one else dared to do was bring sexuality into ads, as he was established the master of the "sex sells" approach to high end products.

During Ford's early years, he attended Parsons The New School for Design and graduated with a degree in interior architecture. Since then, he interned for Chloe in Paris for half a year and worked as a design assistant for Hardwick for two years. He grew tired of American fashion and decided to work in Europe because he stated that too much style in America is tacky and Europeans appreciate style.

In 1999, Gucci was over shadowed by Mello and almost went bankrupt. When Ford came into the picture, the company value was $4.3 billion and $19 billion when he left the company in 1994. Ford's amazing talent drove up sales like never before after bringing back old styles and creating them to a never before seen style. When Gucci acquired the house of Yves Saint-Laurent, Ford was named he creative director of YSL.

Ford launched his own line, Tom Ford, in 2004. In that same year, Ford partnered up with Estee Lauder to create the TOM FORD beauty brand which includes eyewear and fragrance collections. Since then, Ford has received numerous fashion awards from the most beautiful people to Council of Fashion Designers in America. He has achieved everything that he had dreamed of, even directing the movie, A Single Man, and continues to pursue his impressive careers.

BETSEY JOHNSON SPRING 2010

Shock-designer Betsey Johnson sure has a unique eye for style. While her designs are loud and sometimes outrageous, there are wearable elements to each and every one of her pieces. From the actual clothing to the hair, makeup, and styling elements, Betsey Johnson has created an image all her own. I admire her sincere devotion to her own sense of style and her ability to design only for herself. Here are some pieces from her Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection.

WonderWul at WHOLE EARTH FESTIVAL

One of the booths at Whole Earth Festival that caught my attention was WonderWul by Annettee. Here are photos of the figures and animals she was selling at her booth. Each piece was made by spinning and arranging pure wool fibers together.

D.I.Y: DENIM

Inspired by the designer Chloe, the WhoWhatWear.com team has taken this runway look and made it easy for these fashionable items to become affordable. Denim is always in, so why not add some spice to your old jeans. Here is a D.I.Y straight from the runway!

TWO-TONE DENIM JEANS

Ingredients:

-1 pair of medium-wash jeans

-1 pair of light-wash jeans

-Scissors

-Fabric Glue

Directions:

1. Measure out and mark up two rectangular panels on the light-wash jeans. Make sure these panels are equally wide—about 6" x 11"—then cut them out using fabric scissors.

2. Place the darker jeans on a flat surface and determine/mark where you want the patches to go.

3. Apply a generous amount of fabric glue to the backside of the light-wash panels. Be sure to evenly distribute the glue on the fabric.

4. Position the light-wash patches over the knee area on the dark-wash jeans and press firmly.

5. Make sure the pieces are completely dried and adhered before you pick them up.

6. Wait 72 hours before washing them—and remember to turn the jeans inside out first!
