After four years of being a college student, I can say I’ve seen my fair share of fashion do’s and don’ts on the lovely UC Davis campus. While we’re all entitled to let our inner fashionista let loose and use our clothes to express who we are, I still think there are limits.
Let’s discuss dressing for class. We all go to class, or at least I hope so, and sit for hours a day listening to someone lecture us about who knows what. Comfort is key. I’ve noticed a lot of students seem to just roll out of bed, throw on some sweats, and find the last seat in the room. This definitely fits within the comfort category, but may be lacking in the style category. Perhaps a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, a sweater, and some flats would be just right. But wait, that guy you have crush on is in your class. So how do you know how much skin to show when your professor is just a few feet in front of you. Be tasteful and use your best judgment. You don’t want to catch the wrong person’s attention.
When you’re getting ready for class, remember it’s daytime. I’ve seen way too many short skirts and girls with over done make-up. You’re beautiful without it, so save it for the bars.
Speaking of the bars, let’s discuss dressing for the Davis nightlife. Remember, we’re in Davis, not Los Angeles or SF. No need for skin-tight dresses that barely cover your behind and four-inch heels that may get you in more trouble than it’s worth. I’m not saying to ditch the dress, but maybe something flowier would do the trick and instead of those four-inchers, opt for the two-inch wedges instead. Show a bit more skin than you would in class and don’t forget about your inner-fashionista; it needs to be unleashed once in a while.
